the hospital

Collie Veterinary Hospital (CVH) is a well equipped, purpose built veterinary hospital which caters for the needs of all animals, including companion animals, horses, farm animals and wild life.

The air conditioned hospital comprises a spacious waiting room/ reception area and two consultation rooms. For the animals there is a comfortable hospitalisation area with indoor and outdoor dog runs and cages, a cat cage area and a separate infectious disease isolation area.

The facilities include a treatment room, surgical preparation area, fully equipped surgical theatre, radiology (including dental x-ray), digital imaging, advanced dental equipment and a diagnostic laboratory.

The covered horse stocks and equine procedure area is being renovated and a dedicated equine surgery yard and hospitalisation yards are currently under construction.

history

Collie Veterinary Hospital was established in the 1960s by Dr Paul Kahler who initially practised form small premises in Johnson Street. Under his guidance the practice soon outgrew these modest facilities and he commissioned the construction of the current prupose built veterinary hospital.

In 1989 Dr. Jules Vandenbergh bought Collie Veterinary Hospital and continued to develop the hospital as a place of high quality veterinary service and provide a wide range of veterinary services in the south west of WA, with a focus on the companion animal, equine and farm animal areas as well as services to wild life.

When the deer and ostrich industries where at their peak in WA, CVH became one of the main service providers to these industries. In the early 1990’s CVH pioneered the areas of small as well as equine dentistry and became one of the first veterinary hospitals in Australia to provide a full veterinary dental service including periodontics, endodontics and orthodontics.

In early 2005 the hospital was closed for a brief period and major renovations were carried out. Renovations, especially to the equine facilities, are ongoing.

the people

Dr Jules Vandenbergh
Veterinarian and Equine Veterinary Dentist, BSc BVMS

The heart-and-soul of Collie Veterinary Hospital Jules graduated as a mature age student after a life of travel and working amongst other things in the equine & rural industries and commenced his veterinary career as an equine vet at a major horse hospital in Perth. Jules took over Collie Veterinary Hospital in the 1989.

Dr Kerri Wallis
Veterinarian, BSc BVMS

After graduating from Murdoch University, Kerri spent several years working in mixed and equine practice in WA before moving to Victoria where she continued to refine her excellent surgical and diagnostic skills. Lucky for us, she eventually decided to come back to WA and joined the practice in 2009. When she is not working at Collie Veterinary Hospital, the always cheerful and super fit Kerri can be seen competing in marathons and a variety of other sports.

Dr Adrienne Arkell
Veterinarian, BSc BVMS

Adrienne joined the practice on a part time basis in June 2011.

Dr Michael Chambless

Veterinarian, BSc BVMS

Michael graduated from Murdoch University in 2011 and recently joined us as a full time vet.

Dr Hyuna Wringe
Veterinarian, BSc DVM

Hyuna qualified as a veterinarian in Korea and then proceeded to requalify in Australia. Compassionate, thorough and an all round quiet achiever whose dry sense of humour never fails to brighten up even the busiest of days. When Collie Veterinary Hospital re opened, Hyuna was employed as the second vet, making it possible to significantly increase the services offered at CVH. After working full time for 2 years Hyuna has reduced her workload to spend more time with her family and now works at the practice on a part time basis.

Janett Cork
Practice Manager, IT-Administration, Laboratory

Jan is the only person at CVH with a passion for computers and for keeping our ever expanding computer network happy...and therefore us as well... This erstwhile Air Traffic Controller is also the person who fully understands the electronic wizardry that keeps our Clinical Pathology Laboratory running. Jan is also the person for dog toys, mysterious ways, cat toys, boxer dogs, "yeah-yeah", bird toys, inherited cats, inherited dogs, inherited birds, and more dog toys.

Jenny-Lee Myburgh

Receptionist, Administration

Jenny-Lee joined the paractice in 2010 and since that time has worked untiringly to bring order and efficiency to our reception desk. She is also the only person in the history of Collie Veterinary hospital who, with a mixture of good humoured threats and sheer persistence, has managed to get Jules to do at least some of his paper work.

Kristy Elvin
Vet Nurse

"Ask Kristy" is one of the most used phrases at CVH. Kristy joined us at the end of 2007 as a new trainee and prompty had to put her vet nursing studies on hold for a while because of the work load. Multi talented Kristy has a quiet reassuring way with animals and tackles even the most stressful situations with unflappable calmness, good cheer and quiet professionalism. Kristy also enjoys her part time career as a singer and guitarist and, as well as having recorded her first CD, she is a regular performer at local vineyards, functions and restaurants.

Dianne Dickinson

Dental Nurse and Animal Technician

After the "baby break" Di changed from Dental-Clinic-white to CVH-blue and now divides her time at CVH between doing some administrative work, some vet nursing, and because of her dental qualifications contributes a lot to the dental service CVH provides.

Anna Muffert
Agricultural Engineer and Vet student

Anna is an honours graduate in Agricultural Engineering from Bonn University in Germany. She is currently studying Veterinary Science at Murdoch University in Perth, rides track work and regularly competes in dressage and eventing. The self confessed "farmer without a farm" works part time at CVH.

Chelsea Byass

Donna Baker
Vet Nurse

Donna is our main nurse at the Boyup Brook veterinary clinic, but she also works in Collie. Living in Boyup Brook Donna is a great help of providing a veterinary taxi service for patients, which need treatment in Collie.
